Coleman Ruabon, Wales Attached Is a copy of our report on the work done here to evaluate the two proposed methods for determining labile chlorine In askarels. Our position Is that while either or both these methods could be developed Into useable ones, neither of them has the promise of offering sufficient advantage over those now accepted by the ASTM to make this desirable. All methods for determining labile chlorine in askarels are empirical in nature. This means that the results they give are not directly comparable. Under these circumstances, keeping-the number of methods as small as possible will minimize the confusion. We do feel that we must run a stability test of some kind to insure that we do not ship unstable material. We also believe that users should run such a test as a part of their acceptance analysis for their own pro tection. The preferred test would be either ASTM D 1820-65 or D 2441-65 T at present.
