Therefore, you should immediately take whatever steps are necessary to see that these products are taken off the shelves by your Dealers and Branches by July 1, 1972. I have been given same information to the effect that Mayor Daley conceivably might extend this July 1st date, but this is only conjecture. The Technical Department has re-formulated many of the rexes on the attached list so that they will contain less than..06% lead and will be safe for sale. You will know whether or not a product is safe if the suffix "X" follows the filling date. So, as an example, John, if Dexall Metal Enamel Black, N8! B 2, would be delivered to your Branch with an "X" after the filling date, then it would be acceptable to sell it to the Trade. On the other hand, if it didn't have the "X" it would have to be taken off the shelves and not sold. You will notice that we stated in the beginning of this letter that we are giving you a list of the Trade Sales and Professional Coatings products. At this moment, we do not have a list of the Branch Industrial items. I don't believe that this wilt be any particular problem at'this time, but we will have a list for you within the next couple of weeks. This list is only Sherwin-Williams labeled merchandise. My understanding, in talking to you over the phone, is that you don't have any Acme, Lucas, or Lowe Bros, products, so ] have not included any of those products which would be parallel to any of Sherwin-Williams. You know that Varnishes, Oil Stains, Floor Paints, and Aerosol products have been given an extension to.
