DRIVER PRESIDENT ... 1 9 74 December 13, 1974 To: Executive Contacts of Selected MCA Member companies Subject: Stanford Research Institute Survey of Losses of Chemicals During Manufacture Gentlemen: Stanford Research Institute (SRI), under contract to the National Science Foundation (NSF), is conducting a survey of losses of certain chemical materials during manufacture. The survey is part of a National Science Foundation pro gram now underway for the purpose of determining the nature and extent of future potential environmental problems of con cern to both industry and Government. This overall effort is of importance to MCA member companies. Approximately 84 organic chemicals are involved in the survey, and information is bein.g requested from all manu facturers of these chemicals as determined by SRI. A small number of these chemicals, based on degree of dispersion in the environment as indicated by the survey results, are to be selected by NSF for future research under grants. An industrial advisory panel is to be involved in planning this research. Success of the overall effort is dependent on the degree of response to the survey.
