Dear Jerry: I have arranged with four of the glass companies to send 3 pieces each of stemware or lead glass pieces suitable for testing. In the cases where more than one lead glass composition is produced, 3 samples of each will be sent to Mai McLaren. . The samples will come from Lenox Crystal, Imperial, Fostoria, and Tiffin Glass Division of Interpace Corporation. All have had tests made on their ware. I know specifically that Fostoria and Lenox have had ware tested at Pittsburgh Testing Labora tories using the LIB 834 test. Their results are well under 0.5 ppm. Tiffin had tests run at their Glendale, California laboratory. Walter Bistline said that the lead release was negligible, being less than 0.1 ppm. Each will identify the lead content of the samples being submitted, and each expects that the report will use code to identify the samples so that the name of the company will not immediately be identifiable. If it becomes necessary to identify the sources, I am sure they would give their approval. In any event, the records could be subpoenaed if anyone were really wanting to get into the matter.
