Rba Pau l , Consulting Colorist Fourth of a series of articles discussing practical uses of the newer wall finishes obtainable with Dutch Boy white-lead and Dutch Boy flatting oil THIS directors' room owes much of its distinctiveness to the soft, feathery design on its wails achieved by using the two-tone Crumpled-Roll Finish. As its name implies, the Crum pled-Roll Finish is produced by rolling a crumpled newspaper over a wet finishing coat. This lifts off die top coat in places, permitting the ground coat to show through. The Crumpled-Roll Finish may be used either in two or three tones and either in panels or over the en tire wall. In panels, the contrast be tween the colors of the ground and top coats should usually be greater than when this finish is employed on the entire wall surface. The she of the figures in the Crumpled-Roll Finish may be varied simply by crumpling the paper tightly or loosely. Tightly crumpled paper produces small figures, while loosely crumpled paperproduceslarger and more pronounced figures. Where to use it Inaddition to the directors' roomshownabove,theCrumpledRoll Finish is suitable for use in rooms such as the following and with the colot treatments suggested: in the small dining room of the club or hotel, an ivory ground color and a light blue finishing coat; in the small bedroom of the dub or hotel, cream ground coat and pea green finishing coat; in the living or dining mm of the home, corn yellow ground coat and soft gray finishing coat; ia the bedroom ofthe home, gray ground coat and rosefinishing coat; in the entrance hail of the home, cream ground coat and maple yellow finishing coat; in the reception room of the office oc school, light tan ground coat and medium brown finishing coat; in the Complete directions and formulas for producing the Crumpled-Roll Finish ate contained in a new booklet in color, "Decorative Possibilities of Paint."
