INC. Fibrous Glass Products' asbestos-free Fiberseal is being used extensively in the aluminum industry replacing asbestos tape, rope, paper, etc., in miscellaneous applications. Some of the more important applications involve gaskets for pot room crucibles and gaskets (or fill) in joining sections of transfer troughs and distribution pans. Fiberseal is superior to asbestos with respect to resistance to heat and is less expensive than the alumina-silica materials (Fiberfrax, Kaowool, Cerafelt) presently used in many of our operations. Fiberseal is available in sheet form in thicknesses varying from 1/1+ in. to 1 in., and the cost of the 1 in. thick material is approximately $0.60 per sq. ft. A typical gasket for a pot room crucible cpsts between $ and $8 each supplied in one piece; the average life of this gasket is 2 - 3 heats.
