CRALLET , PITTSBURGH OFFICE PLAINTIFF'S RE: VISIT BT VERNON HEALTH DEPARTMENT I EXHIBIT 3 AL-328 L(7 o Some time ago, we equipped one of our Pattern Shop band saws with exhaust system for the purpose of sawing "Maranite." After a number of experiments, we finally decided to discontinue this practice and have sent our work to outside shops. The attached data sheets indicate the reason for our decision. Attached is also copy of a letter from D. C. Harkins, Massena Works , to R. H. Allen, Vernon Works, and a copy of Allen's memo to me dated December 26, 1961. Subsequent to receipt of Mr. Allen's memo, I had an opportunity to discuss r the matter.casually with Mr. Richard Hiltoncof thevVemon Health Department. I assured him we were no longer sawing "Maranite'' but might decide to do it again at some future time if there was a reasonable solution to the problem. Mr. Hilton asked me for a piece of "Maranite" for analysis purposes. Then, he and Mr. Hauger, the newly employed R. S. for Vernon, brought the piece back to our plant to saw it on the equipped band saw. The visit was arranged as per your request during your recent visit. Msssrs. Hilton and Hauger were escorted to the area by our Mr. J. W. Saythe of the Technical Department. Mr. Smythe's letter to me, January 16, 1962, is attached and self-explanatory.
