You raised the question - should Z be using JM 7M02 asbestos. My answer to this is yes. It will significantly increase the water-holding properties of the product. This would permit you to take advantage of the increased yield which your customers will get and cut the packing weight as we have done in the United States. In a number of plants, we have shaved as much as five pounds frow the packing weight. The question of what you could accomplish at your plant can best be determined by testing. I would recommend that you get in 500 pounds of JM 7M02. When it is available, I will make a trip to Montreal and bring my quality control kit with me. We can run some test batches and evaluate them immediately. This will also give me an opportunity to demon strate for you our U.S. cuaiity control procedures. You also raised the question - is 7M02 approved by Uncerwriters* Laboratories. The answer to the question is: yes. It is acceptable, but as far as I know, has never been speci fically approved as such. Our U.L. procedure file *R-4339 simply states the following: "Asbestos - Type 7>! csbesto3, a medium-grade gray fibre". We have used this as an umbrella under which a wide variety of 7M fibreshave been utilised at various plants at one time or another. I am really looking forward to the possibility of visiting at your plant in Montreal. If possible, I would like to make it same time during the third week in January.
