NEWS W TE NO. 412, February 7, 1961 NEW MAGNUS APPOINTMENTS " Boetius H. Sullivan, Jr. and^Riner G. Altizer have been appointed vice presidents of Magnus Metal Corporation. Mr. Sullivan succeeds M. Jay Turner who has retired after 46 years of service.^Louis J. Gruber has been named assistant vice president and'John J. Hickey, district sales manager at Chicago. Messrs. Sullivan, Gruber and Hickey are located in Chicago, while Mr. Altizer's office continues to be in New York City. Mr. Sullivan, assistant vice president at Magnus since 1955> was formerly assistant coal traffic manager of the Chesapeakevand Ohio Railway Company. Prior to joining the sales staff of Magnus at Chicago in 1952 he was president of the Orme Company. Mr. Sullivan is a graduate of Yale University. Mr. Altizer joined Magnus as advertising manager in 1949 and has been assistant to president since January 1956. Formerly he was associated with Fred Wittner Advertising and Sperry Products, Inc. Mr. Altizer, a graduate of Princeton University, served four and one-half years with the U. S. Army Air Forces during World War II. Mr. Gruber was first employed by Magnus in 1943 at Cincinnati, as a test engineer. In 1955 he was transferred to Chicago as sales representative. Mr. Hickey was Magnus, Metal sales representative in Houston from 1946 until 1957, at which time he became sales representative at the Chicago office. Mr. Hickey was graduated from Northwestern University. TORNEY NAMED SALES MANAGER OF PRIMARY METALS Emmett A. Torney has been named sales manager, primary metals, for the metal department with headquarters at New York City. He will direct the marketing of lead, zinc, and cadmium, by Company branches' throughout the United States. Mr. Torney was formerly general sales manager for Bunker Hill Company at San Francisco. Mr. Torney's association with Bunker Hill dates from 1929 when he joined the office staff at Kellogg, Idaho. Advancing through various administrative and sales .positions he was named traffic manager in 1944, and general sales manager in 1954, at San Francisco. Mr. Torney is a member of American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical and Petroleum Engineers, and a director of American Zinc Institute. W. D. SMITH ASSISTANT MANAGER OF ATLANTA BRANCH William D. Smith has been appointed assistant manager of the Atlanta Branch. He joined the office staff at Atlanta in 1941 and left in 1943 to spend three years with the Armed Services. He returned to the Company in 1946 and in 1949 was named assistant.to the manager. Mr. Smith attended the Draughan School of Commerce at Atlanta, Georgia. J. J. SMITH PROMOTED AT PACIFIC COAST BRANCH Jack J. Smith has been appointed sales manager, industrial product's, for the Pacific Coast branch.
