As I have indicated in the report, the results on are in agreement and are clearly indicative of his having had recent hazardous exposure to lead compounds. The information given concerning this patient is not ' such that we are justified in making any assumption as to the diag nosis . However, the results are compatible with a diagnosis of lead poisoning, if such a diagnosis is justified on other grounds. In the case of the lead concentration in the urine is high and is indicative of recent lead absorption. However, the lead concentration in the blood is just at the upper edge of normal values, thereby suggesting that this man has not had recent dangerous lead exposure. The sample of urine had a high specific gravity, and is therefore a somewhat concentrated sample. This may account for the discrepancy. I should be inclined to doubt if any of the present symptoms were due to lead absorption but would feel that these results should be checked by further analyses. It is possible that the sample of urine may have been slightly contaminated in its collection, in which case a further samples of both blood and urine would tend to clarify the significance of the lead exposure. .\ 1. . ,i In the above case as well as in future cases it would be well for us to have all of the available clinical information, since otherwise it is impossible for us to give an adequate interpretation of the analytical results. . The concentration of lead in the urine is relatively high. This may have resulted from the collection of a concentrated sample of urine, or it may have resulted from con- lamination in the process of collection.
