FTPD will not honor any new quotations for ftrranol-filled equipment. In recent months there has been increased concern over the effects of polychlorinated biphenyls (?CB) In the environment. -PCB is the major constituent in Fyranol. "3n December 27, 1973, the Environmental Protection Agency published a proposed new Part 129 of the Federal Water Pollution Control Act Amnendsents of 1972. These proposed regulations would become effective in June 1975* If implemented, they will effectively ban the manufacture of Pyranolfilled equipment by limiting the amount of PCS that may be disposed of in the environment. Based on our .present factory backlog, it will not be possible for us to accept any new orders for Pyranol-filled equipment for shipment prior to June 1975- Further, at the present time, the Power Transformer Products Department does not believe it is possible for us or any other manufacturer to meet these standards. The General Electric Company is actively seeking a substitute material for Pyranol, but due to the extensive development and evaluation required, It is unlikely that any substitute will be available prior to June 1975. In the event that we are uiiable to ship ^*ranol-filled equipment presently on order, prior to the^ implementation of the proposed Federal Standard, it will be necessary for us to substitute oil as an insulating medium. 774669 GENP 006020 .M * Should it become possible in the interim for the Power Transformer Products Department to meet the proposed Federal Standard, it may become necessary for outstanding contracts to be re-negotiated to compensate for the increased. handling and processing costs associated with compliance to the new regulations.
