GHEMICAL MANUFACTURERS ASSOCIATION December 11, 1986 Dear Vinyl Chloride Program Panel Members: The Panel recently completed a Study entitled An Update of An Epidemiologic Study of Vinyl Chloride Workers 1942-1982. The study showed an excess in mortality from three causes not previously associated with vinyl chloride exposure: liver cancer, biliary cancer, and lung emphases. The final report on the study was submitted to pertinent Government Agencies on October 24, 1986. Since this study has raised concerns not previously associated with vinyl chloride, several Panel members have expressed an interest in continuing limited research activities on vinyl chloride. Some Panel members also have shown an interest in a case control study. After all the bills are paid, I expect a balance of about $57,000 remaining in the Panel's funds. Thus, a low level of activity on vinyl chloride would be feasible without additional commitments. Any significant undertaking, however, such as a case control study, may require additional funding. - A meeting has been scheduled for Tuesday, January 27, 1987, to discuss a future course of action for the Panel. The meeting will be held at CMA offices in Washington, D.C., and will begin at 10:00 a.m. The agenda for the meeting is enclosed.
