Location: 19 East Subject: VCM Monitoring I know that the manpower demands that are required to obtain samples are great; however, so is our need for adequate data on the employees' exposures. Our past effort has been concentrated on collecting samples where there is reason to suspect high concentrations. I feel that until the area monitoring equipment is installed we should not. reduce the frequency of our monitoring program. Further, a single 10-minute sample once per month (Items 2 and 3) isn't much of a representation of what is happening over the other 14,390 i minutes of the month. There is no indication of how many 10-minute f samples will be collected (Item 2) during the four to six hour TWA I measurements once per week. # I would suggest a meeting with you at your convenience to elaborate more on this subject. Ferguson Location: Laboratory Subject: VCM Monitoring In approximately two weeks, most of the personnel who work in the VCM area will have been monitored for VCM for a minimum of 8 hours/week for three consecutive weeks. In general, the results of this monitoring program show a minimal exposure to VCM ( r. 1 ppm). Therefore, the frequency of monitoring can be reduced. The proposed monitoring schedule is as follows: 1. #2 and #5 Job Men - These men will now be monitored once a week for 4-6 hours for TWA purposes. Also, we will take a 10 minutes sample during the TWA monitoring during a period of activity where high VCM levels may be encountered in order to establish ceiling VCM levels. 1 2. #1, #3, #3A, #4 Job Men; Laboratory Personnel; Supervisors and Shift * Supervisors - These men will be monitored once per month for 10 minutes. 3. Maintenance Personnel - Men who regularly work in the #2 or #5 Job areas will be monitored for 10 minutes once/month. NOTE: If ceiling levels of > 50 ppm VCM are encountered for any of the above personnel, the 8 hr/week for 3 consecutive weeks monitoring program will be re-instated. 4. #2 and #5 Job Area - These areas will be monitored alternately on a daily basis for VCM. The monitor in the #5 area will be positioned randomly. Daily OVA surveys will continue in the #2 Job area; a similar survey will now be conducted in the #5 Job area. 5. Area Outside Plant - A program for monitoring the area outside the plant is now being planned.
