Evaluation of Vinyl Acetate Monomer (MVAc)
Reference: Memos F.W. Kanzler to H.B. Carr, dated 10/29/70 and 2/27/71
As outlined in the referenced memos, gas chromatographic an alysis of MVAc was added to the routinely performed IR analysis run on the subject raw material. Table I (attached) shows ad ditional analyses made since the latter referenced memo. While both acetaldehyde and crotonaldehyde were tentatively identi fied as the main impurities in the MVAc samples, it is suspected that other impurities are masked by the two main impurities. Therefore, an attempt will be made to (1) achieve a better sep aration and (2) quantify the impurities by direct calibration.
Table II (attached) shows the results from a MVAc sump sample. All of the levels were calculated on the basis of area compen sation.
