In ny opinion, the rsothod. which Mr. Longaker has outlined is entirely satisfactory for the purpose. In fact I go not believe there is any appreciable danger in cleaning these tanks if the insid of the bank is kept moist at all times. I sent out letters to a number of the larger refineries asking for this information vixt.h the idea that I would incorporate in tho rules and regulations certain suggestions for co 1batlng any lead hazard which might be present, I ld not want to issue a rule which would interfere in any way with satisfactory practices in the various refineries, and it seemed advisable, therefore, to know what was being done before my getting my foot in it by suggesting changes. I now have replies from a number of representativo refinery managers and find that we shall be in position to suggest what may be done without making oursolves objectionable in any way to the.refinery managers. I see him perhaps not. less than once a week somewhere in the building-- you know their main office is in this building-- and we quite frequently discuss Ethyl matters. Apparently Mr. Dellinger, Superin- tendent of their Port Arthur Works, referred your letter to him of June 21st to the New York office for the purpose of establishing a policy applicable to the Texas Company generally dealing with the method of cleaning storage tanks and tank cars which have contained Ethyl Gasoline. Today I received the enclosed letter from Mr. Longaker attaching a copy of yours to Mr. Dellinger. ' I would be pleased to have your advice as to whether the method employed as outlined by Mr. Longaker meets the situation you had in mind, and If not, in what respect.
