1* Toxicological Considerations*

B. Him handling of a solution of tetraethyl
lend in oil, or other solvents involves two definite risks which vary in magnitude with the concentration of the
solution, namely lead absorption through the akin m the result of contact, ami load absorption by inhalation of vapors rising from the solution*. Concentrations of 10 to -.v . 30 y' of tetraethyl lead in such a solvent will provide
serious hasards which are entirely uncontrollable except as the solution be handled in an entirely closed system, and one which would not require break-down and repair*. Skin contact
with such material would be prohibitively dangerous* and tho
hasard from inhalation at leaks and other points of entrance and exit would be acutely grave, Lower concentrations would impose somewhat lesser risks but there is no reason to believe that these would bo reduced to negligible proportions until concentrations approaching those employed In commercial
gasoline were reached* Certainly no concentration higher than
0*1 should b used under conditions that require or permit of skin contact with the solution, or with equipment (pumps, pipe lines etc) contaminated by the solution. It must not be assumed that on oil containing from 23 to pO cc of tetraethyl load^oan be safely handled, This solution is from g to l6 times as concentrated on the highest permitted in automobile
