RUEHL - WAYNESBORO ASBESTOS PROGRAM - WORKMEN'S COMPENSATION (WC) FOR PENSIONERS Corporate policy states that we will treat pensioners the same as employees relative to workmen's compensation. In preparing to carry out this policy, several questions such as the following have been raised. 1. Will we pay w.c. to pensioners in all states? 2. What state do we use?' (1) present residence, (2) last workplace, or (3) workplace where employee was exposed. These ,,hree could all be different states. 3. What wages do we base w.c. on? I reviewed these questions with ERD, Legal, and S&FP Divisions and the Corporate Asbestos Committee hoping that we could provide you with answers and with general guidelines that would be helpful. Un fortunately, we won't be able to do this because of the complexity of the problem and the difference in the state laws. Each case will have to be handled individually. You should follow the normal procedure for filing and authorization except many cases.will have to be discussed prior to filling out the forms. Those cases of Company related asbestos abnormalities that you believe are not compensable according to your state's law should be reviewed by PERD, Alan Cropper (S&FP Division), and the writer to insure uniformity of treat ment to all pensioners. THROUGH CHtM.STtr DUP / *54128 PENSIONER ASBESTOS SCREENING PROGRAM There have been many questions addressed to the Medical Division requesting clarification and assistance in providing radiology evaluations for those pensioners who are not conveniently located near a plant site. In order to maintain management continuity of this program, it is suggested that each plant site be responsible for all pensioners for whom the site was the final employ ment point and for those pensioners retired from other Du Pont facilities for whom the plant site has administrative responsi bility. The site may accomplish the x-ray screening in its own facilities or refer the pensioner to outside sources at the site's expense. Plant sites with adequate x-ray equipment and personnel should provide on-plant x-ray screening to the maximum extent possible. Pensioners residing at an inconvenient distance from the plant should be'instructed to request their personal physician to refer them to a local radiologist. The radiologist should be requested to take a PA chest x-ray, interpret the film and send the interpretation and the bill for services to the plant medical department. The Corporate Medical Division will be available to assist plant sites in situations where the above procedure is not suitable. The radiologist's report should be sent to this site (your last employment point in the Company). The charges for taking and interpreting the X-ray should also be billed to this site.
