The only Recordable Injury to a Technical Center employee this year involved a Central Engineering employee who was Injured when he fell on a Sistersville Plant roadway. Technical Center employees should all be proud of their recent safety performance. The last Lost Workday Case at this site occurred more than two years ago on March 5, 1984, and the last Recordable Injury occurred six (6) months ago on November 19, 1985. This is incredible safety performance -- keep up the good work! ON-THE-JOB INJURY AND ILLNESS SUMMARY Safety performance for the Technical Center and Construction was very good in May. On May 29th an eye injury to a Construction pipe welder trainee disrupted what could have been perfect month. This injury accounted for the only Recordable Injury for the month for all functions. In summary, there were no Lost Workday Cases in May and we have one LWC year-to-date. We experienced one Recordable Injury in May and the entire Technical Center, including Construction, has a total of ten (10) year-to-date. a In the April report, the Construction Department was charged with a Recordable Injury Involving an employee who was struck In the nose with a spud wrench. The formal investigation of the case revealed that this case was non-occupational; therefore, it will not be charged against Construction's Recordable Injury perforiuance. The following is a brief summary of the Technical Center May Recordable Injury: o May 29- Construction - A pipe welder trainee was using a pneumatic grinder to grind on a piece of six-inch (6") pipe. A piece of metal got in the employee's eye, became embedded, and had to be removed by an ophthalmologist. The employee was wearing safety glasses with sideshtelds and a full faceshield while grinding on the pipe. The condition Is reportedly due to his asbestos exposure while working as a laborer and insulator for the Construction Department.
