Reid, The Travelers, Liability Claim Division, 30-42 E, 42nd St., New York City, My dear Mr. Reid: I have just returned to my laboratory from a vacation trip and have just finished going over the letter from your attorneys and the deposition of Dr. Cash. The deposition, it seems to me, is not very damaging, but represents a fair statement of the facts. I'y only exception to it would be in the matter of the condition of the bones of the wrist which, it does not seem to me, can have any possible relationship to the original injury but is rather a diseased condition in itself. I have no further comment to make on the matter since 1 do not believe I can contribute any thing beyond what I have already outlined. You may be interested, however, in knowing that I am going to undertake a preliminary study at least of some of the cracked gasolines, with the idea of determining whether there are in these new gasolines compounds of a more irritating nature than those which have been generally seen in commerce previously. There are some reasons for believing that the new methods have produced new substances which yield somewhat different results when applied to the skin than the ordinary gasolines hitherto in general use. It may be very difficult to get any adequate information on this matter, but I am very much interested to know why these conditions should appear more frequently than they did in the past.
