?8^CHEMICALS /INTEROFFICE LAKE CHARLES ^ Shipping Foremen/Personne1 DATE August 24, 1937 FROMJun Lafleur SUBJECT Air/N2 Connections Recently several Air/N2 adapters(Kelly to Quick-Connect) fittings were found in the dock area. While this is not in keeping with the stated plant policy it is understainable why they were recessary. One was attached to the air operated pump used to strip the water from stern rakes of barges arid is operated on air except at "A" Dock which has only Nitrogen. We normally would use the steam siphon to remove the water from the barge rakes but there is no steam at "A" dock. Two were found at "c" dock, and had to be used to clear lines and dry the ships tanks after the out of spec tri ethane had been off loaded. This doesn't happen very often and presented an unusual requirement for N2 and hoses. The other was found at the VDCM Tank Truck rack and the need there is due to the fittings found on the padding connections of the trucks hauling VDCM. 'Some of the fittings can be removed and some cannot be easily reached to be removed. The problem as I see it is that we have a legitimate need on occasion ror an i1 legal connection but we have not communicated tins need to anyone nor done a very good job of controlling its" use. I have notified Bob McCorquoda1e of our need for an exemption and how we are going to control the adapters use. The Shi'ft Foremen/Lead T^pkerman will be responsible for storing, issuing arid recording when and where the device is being used and when it- is removed* This infoi mation will ti recorded in their logbooks. This will apply to Plant "A" and Plant "8" o*n back shifts and weekends. The Plant "8" Shipping Foremen/Lead Tankerman will handle the use on day shift. We will strive to use the appropriate connections in all cases and the adapter only where absolutely necessary. Under" no circumstance can we tolerate or afford to leave these devices out in the area. When we are f ini shied using them they must be returned to the Shipping Foreman or Shift Foremen's office and noted in the logbook. Thanks for your cooperation.
