mho orrf'ntT,tion of PCS in human blood and ndimee tlorue ir three ni-n'eront research groups

Tnri^v it has boon definitely proved that FCB can he found
evor*y''hr? in our surroundi
and in living orpanip'-n, wo
fifin are learning constantly about its biological effects
on different species. Knowledge about the harmful effects
on human beings oaused by PCB has been obtained chiefly
from old souroen or from ecoidents and we have very vague
Ir'eno nbont the doses or tissue concentrations that hove
any noticeable effect. Much confusion has also arisen because
the crtr'ii'O^cial PCri-nroductR have differences that concern
i'OB itsoi.f and especially impurities in then. In induatrinl
toxicolo--r ft is often useful to know the tissue concentration
of ci'r'!,il?t.Jve compounds and use it as an indox of eyo^ure
which ot'ipr'viae may be very difficult to estimate. Therefore
vro hove determined the concentration of FOB in blood and
J" no^c cases also in subcutaneous adipos* tissue of 29
persons.
JMne pennons so far as we know have never been professional!y
exposed to VOB ( group I, persons 1 9 ). Bix other nor^ono
handle ?0d sa*rr>!.ee in an analytical laboratory ( group II,
persons 10 - 15 ) and eleven persons have been working
since 15;6d at a capacitor factory where Arochlor 1242 in
used for impregnation of capacitors ( group III, persons
16-27 ). The PCB concentration in the air of this factory
has been proved to fulfil internationally accepted limits.
Special attention has been given to the protection of the
shin.
The PCB concentration in blood and adipose tissue nas been
determined by gr.a chromatographic method which in presented
in dtnil in the appendix of Matti tfelminer'e lecture. In
**1 urea 1 and 2 there are the results of the gas chromato
grams of the blood and subcutaneous adipose tissue of some
