A t t a c h e d is a s u m m a r y l i s t i n g by part n u mb er of the g a s k e t s affected by the conversion program to non-asbestos materials. The new material being released by Engineering for each gasket is also shown, along with product family (hermetic or semihermetic), usage (head gasket, valve plate gasket, etc.), thickness range as shown on the drawings, and the finished goods i n v e n t o r y at I n d u s t r y P r o d u c t s as of J u l y 15, 1988. T h i s inventory status does MOT include the orders in process as of that date. The stock status at Industry Products will be taken each month. The objective in making this information available is to keep each plant informed of the quantity of asbestos parts still at the vendor.
Keep in mind that as the raw material sheets are cut, gaskets
wi th in a .002- . 003" range may be generated (due to the to lerance
range across the sheet). As a result, you may see the stock for a given part number increase before being run down.
Each plant is requested to go through this list and track the part numbers used in their facility. We will request a mo nthly report from each plant regarding the total inventory value of asbestos gaskets on hand. This information is essential for us to monitor the corporate use-up of asbestos gaskets.
In a d d i t i o n , ea ch p l a n t is to u s e - u p the su pp ly of a s b e s t o s gaskets for a given part number before using the non-asbestos m a t e r i a l s in p r o d u c t i o n . Co lo r d i f f e r e n c e s and m a r k i n g differences between asbestos and non-asbestos materials make this possible. If you need any assistance, please call.

It is recommended that each plant review their annual usage for each gasket part number and thickness, versus the inventory status at the plant and Industry Products. Where excessive inventory exists, you may wish to scrap part of this inventory in this fiscal year. Since we have a 3-year shelf life on packaged ga skets, this "3 - y e a r rule" may be usef ul in m a k i n g this determination. If there are any questions or comments, please let us know.
