The pipe was located in a pipe rack across the road from the #1 powerhouse inside the Institute plant. All employees were equipped with either an A0R57A or Willson R12 half-face HEPA cartridge respirator. They were also equipped with 2 pair of coveralls, boots, headsock and gloves. Each employee indicated that they were wearing no street clothes under the coveralls, and that each showered or would shower before leaving the work place. The OSHA established Permissible Exposure Level of 0.2 fibers/cc, for an 8-hour workday (TWAg), was not exceeded. However, the Action Level of 0.1 fiber/cc, also established by OSHA, was exceeded on 2 samples. The Area samples indicate no problem with airborne fibers getting outside of the barricaded area. We continue to urge strict adherence to the proper removal procedures and very careful handling, in order to keep the exposure potential at a minimum. Please inform al1 employees of their exposure monitoring results as soon as possible. Please have each sign and date this report and return to M. A. Patel at Building 701-330.
