IMS-1045 1978 I have notified EPA in the past that we have an on-going project here of removing old lines, stripping the insulation from them and re using or salvaging the lines. This year, however, I have learned that our notification requirements do not meet with Mr. H. W. Head, Jr. 's approval. He has told me that we are furnishing, among other things, an inadequate description. I would like to call your attention to the fact that, since our past practices are no longer sufficient, we do not have a blanket, year-long project to remove asbestos. In order to get the proper description, I need to know about every project, no matter how small, where asbestos insulation may be involved. Also, the project cannot commence until ten days after we notify EPA, as shown by the date on the receipt for the registered letter. Asbestos is one of the "Hazardous Air Pollutants" and is a known carcinogen. Consequently, it is probably one of the most highly-regulated compounds today.
