You will note that there are changes proposed for record keeping. It is planned to record data as regards man hours, injuries and other pertinent information on IBM. A trial program will be initiated during the next 30 days and a study will be made until July 1, 1972 to decide whether we can adopt this programming. Until this is finalized, we will continue the program in effect at the present time. ____Statistical reports will not be required at all loca tions. This is OSHA Form 103, and will be mailed to the plant for completion. Actually, the report is a review of safety activities, type of operation and information that appears on OSHA 102. If your plant should receive the form, contact the^ S-- writer or Dick Tuttle here in the Portland office. Ky' Emergency standards for asbestos. We have received the temporary standards which implied that all employees exposed to asbestos shall wear an approved type respirator. We covered this item in our previous bulletin, also we have outlined a medical, program for employees handling asbestos. To obtain the proper type of respirator, it is recommended that Mine Safety Appliance or Wilson Products be contacted. The respirators must be approved by^Lhe U. S~. Bureau of Minei~. ' General duty clause. This is a very controversial subject and permitted the inspector to issue citations for con ditions he assumed were unsafe, also conditions not spelled out in the standards. You will find reference to this clause in the paragraph "Contested Citations". SGP 0006438 Page Two The entire Act will be reviewed during May, 1972, and we can expect several changes in recordkeeping, inspec tion procedures and citations. We doubt whether the inspection standards will be changed. There will be added standards to cover health hazards, especially asbestos, lead and chemicals.
