Tissue, J. L. Worstell 1. Reviewed JLW's contents of letter to Congressman Staton. Group approved! JLW will have a Plant APM review just prior to mailing 3/5/82. 2. Distribution of Minutes to the Committee: W. E. Ballard T. D. Epps T. E. Lawrence R. G. Link L. E. McClure H. L. Wise 3. F. Stowers called to relay information that "CAG" will hold an 11:00 a.m. 3/5/82 press conference at which they will indicate UCC and FMC are major polluters. 4. RLF indicated we should consider some type of communication to the community emphasizing that UCC does not accept the results of the Hansbarger Report in an^ effort to help minimize further class action suit. 5. The Steering Committee will probably meet on a bi-weekly basis, possibly more frequently if required. 6. Hansbarger Report. a. A statistical re-analysis of the report might be worth considering as suggested by Dr. S. Austin. UCC 099265 North Charleston Steering Committee Meeting Minutes - March 5, 1982 Page 2 6. Hansbarger Report (cont'd) Action b. The Committee recormends that Dr. Austin be requested to meet with Dr. Hansbarger and his staff to discuss the report in detail. Then let her recommend to the Conmittee on what further action should be considered. 7. Determination of Safe Concentration Levels for community exposures. Action a. The Conmittee recommends that the monitoring data for vinyl chloride, acrylonitrile and ethyl acrylate in the North Charleston area be submitted to TAAC and HERB Groups with a request for assistance in determining safe concentration levels in the conmunity. 8. At this time, it is the Comnittee's recommendation that third party medical/toxicology expertise should not be considered. 9. Next meeting date: March 19, 1982. Possible agenda items: a. Possible need for P.R. activities. b. Changes in North Chaleston Bulk Terminal Operations. c. Purchase of selected areas. d. Review of other source emissions in the North Charleston area. RLF:ke R.
