Vfe have learned that 1) the content of testimony was more diverse than the June 7 hearing; 2) based upon conversations with industry presenters it is clear that a good case was made for the use of plastic pipe (see attached list of participants); and 3) union representatives attended in force and presented testimony in the afternoon session. Following up on the hearings, I met with Jim Wise of the Mayor's office to discuss the hearing and to chart a strategy for the next several weeks. The attached letter to Mr. Wise from the Vice President and Executive Director of the Greater North Pulaski Development Corporation supports the adoption of the plastic pipe ordinance. Jim Wise suggested we should solicit and encourage similar support from the many other development corporations throughout the city. 1 intend to pursue this and ask for your support. Inportantly, most development corporations have a city Alderman on the Board of Directors. In the meantime. Mayor Washington continues in his attempt to consolidate his power in the city government. In my previous memo, I mentioned the Mayor's ccranittee restructuring. This attempt, however, is being challenged by Washington opponents before the Cook County Circuit Court. Thus, the actual membership of the coimittees remains in question. Similarly, the Mayor's office over the next few weeks will be working towards appointing additional members to the Advisory Commission. The purpose will be to ensure that the recommendations made as a result of the hearings will be approved and forwarded to the City Council. For your information the list of current ccmnission members is attached.
