DR. KEHOE HONORED BY LEAD PRODUCERS Chicago -- Dr. Robert A. Kehoe, internationally known authority on industrial toxicology, was honored here today by the presentation of a plaque in recognition of 30 years of service. The occasion was a special luncheon at the 37th Annual Meeting of the Lead Industries Association, Inc. The plaque is the most recent of many honors accorded Dr. Kehoe for his pioneering work in environmental medicine, trace metal metabolism, and related fields. The Industrial Medical Association, of which he is a member, has given him its highest honor, the William A. Knudsen Award. He has been similarly honored by being named Cummings Memorial Lecturer by the American Industrial Hygiene
/' Association, of which he is past President.
In June, Dr. Kehoe will retire as Professor of Medicine .and Director of the Kettering Laboratory in the Department of Preventive Medicine and Industrial Health at the College of Medicine, University of Cincinnati. The new Administration Building of the Kettering Laboratory there has been named for him.
The simple lead plaque awarded him at the luncheon expresses the respect he has won in his work with lead toxicology in particular. His work in this field began in the very early days of mass manufacture of automobiles with the purpose
of achieving safety and high health standards in the manufacture and use of
tetraethyl lead for gasoline. The excellent record which has been maintained in
this area can be largely traced to work performed by Dr. Kehoe.

Lead Industry Shows Optimism

Mr. Hubbeil explained how his company and other aluminum enamelers can now produce purcelain enamel that contains lead oxide that results in a high quality product for architectural applications. He pointed out that the durability of the glass formed in enameling augments the high strength and light weight of alu minum to produce attractive structural components that have excellent life expectancy.
Discussing "Lead Research Formula for Industry Progress," Schrade F. Radtke, research di rector, International Lead Zinc Research Organization, told' the industry representatives that sig nificant progress has been made in the past year through I.L.Z.R.O. research in. two prime lead marketing areas--lead metallurgy and acoustical uses, .
Dr. Radtke said dispersion strengthening has opened up an entirely new field of lead alloy exploration. "These alloys," he added, "offer higher strength, and increased corrosion, creep and fatigue resistance." He teld

In a report to L.I.A. members, Robert L. Ziegfeld, the associa tion's executive vice president, surveyed growth possibilities for lead in the future. He said the idea that gasoline additives or storage batteries could ever have accounted for their present rate of consumption would have been considered preposterous earlier in the century.
But today there are a host of interesting new applications for lead, Mr. Ziegfeld declared, al though he said he did not expect all of them to grow to major proportions in the over-all mar keting picture. He did, however, speculate that one. or more of them may '-e a major marketing outlet for lead in the foreseeable future. For example, he cited new uses for storage batteries in personnel transportation and ap pliances, magnetic leaded ferrites now under consideration for monorail trains, leaded porcelain enamels, and a few others.
