NIOSH i s i n v e s t i g a t i n g m a te ria ls which have been placed in j o i n t compounds to replace asbestos ?n order to determine i f these are hazardous. Two products mentioned are A t t a p u lg it e and V/ol la s t o n i te. Reference was made to the Federal R e g is te r of August 15, 1977. Union Carbide has recommended products be labeled to show amount o f asbestos contained rather than have asbestos con ta in in g products banned. ITEM 4 . 3 - 77 MESA PROPOSED REDEFINITION OF FIBERS There was no new report on the MESA committee a c t i v i t y . The A s s o c i a t i o n 's Manufactu ring and Mining Committee i s m onitorin g the MESA committee work.
