M., March 9, 1974, the manhead gasicet on H 1 reactor blev out on heat-up in the Vll reactor building. Bishop (lead operator) and J* Hamilton (A operator) were in the immediate area of Hi and they told the utilities to evacuate the building. K. Bishop went to HI and opened up the vent valve, then he set off the MSA unit*. By dialing 202, the emergency alarm for w vapor release was then set off. When the vapor alarm was .turned i in, all gas fired dryers and H20 blasters were shut down. After % about 25-55 minutes, K. Bishop and I with a Scott air pack went into m the building to check on the reactor. The reactor still had about twenty pounds of pressure on it, so we cut heat off the reactor and opened the charge valve wide open. In about 10 minutes, we went back * ! and checked the pressure again. All pressure was gone so we let the ' - +. MSA unit run for about five minutes, then we cut the water off of the .< I' 1 MSA unit. Gilbert Morgan and I then entered the reactor building J* ' ,with a Scott air pack and MSA explosive meter to check for YC fumes. \ Explosive meter readings were zero.
