Refe ice: Zonolite Test Reports 1048, 1090, 1094 & 1181
Work done by: R. j. Bragg & W. R. payment
Work requested by: E. L. Perrine
purpose of Test: This project has been conducted concurrently with the Mono-Kote Reformulation work (see Zonolite Test Report 1275 of Jan. 20, 1966), with the general objective to provide the Zonolite Division with the "Optimum Fireproofing Composition". Definition
his term I* the lowest cost composition per hour of fire protection.
Abstract: An analysis of the competitive fireproofing industry a few months ago disclosed considerable data on ten types of fire proofing materials. This study, which was conducted by the author was slanted at the primary factors in this business. There are a few small operators as well as small operations by large concerns which have been eliminated from consideration by lack of activity.
A review of the top ten (included is Zonolite of course) is attached. Technical data, composition as far as known, and a brief listing of important fire tests i3 included for each product,
as well as a Summary page listing the following data:

The secondgoal has been a cooqpleteiy new material for application by the methods used by fibrous ireproofing applicators. In this latter;work we have approach 1 the goals mentioned above, but are in poor position to compare relat ive costs of our recent materials versus competition (i.e. BlazeShield, Type O). Some effort will be made to obtain competitive cost data.
When our final fire tests are completed on the "dry hose" mater ials, and cost analyses can be made, another test report will be submitted.

Mill quality controlled blend of virgin asbestos fiber, highly refined, white mineral fiber and proprietary binders - dust additive at factory. Uses Cafco Adhesive, a latex type water emulsion, probably a polyvinyl acetate. Another description of their fiber: 100* inorganic virgin Chrysotile and small pellet, white mineral fiber plus 100* inorganic binders J This last binder description does not fit the previous appellation of "latex type" which of course would be organic.
