Wait ASBESTOS lit ROOFING CEiUXiT (PURCHASED FOR RESALE} Sometime ago, Mr. t:.ernan and Mr. Helton raised a question on our continuing sale o f roofing cenent (purchased from others} which contained asbestos. This regained the only apparent obstacle to our repeated claim that we cake and sell no products containing asbestos. According to Hr. Busch, Western Division no longer sells such a product. (See letter k/12.} According to Mr. Stover* CGC sells it and needs it. (See letter 9/15.} It doesn't seen to me that we can continue to take a firm position on what ve don't do when we are still doing it. However, Canada is another country - and it is a purchased product--not one made by us - and they are trying to rebuild a roofing business. Conversely, if we were successful in eliminating the pro duct at South Gate with little effect on volume and profit, we should with some planning he able to do it in Canada. j If you agree this is our objective, I'll get Western Division and Canada to work together on a plan.
