Uabeke As requested, on June 11, 1981 the Industrial Hygiene Services Section conducted a "walk around" industrial hygiene survey of the following locations: . EEE Powerhouse . Design Center, basement fan room . Building No. 1, first floor hallway and third floor hallway . Building No. 3# janitor's locker room . New Body above Textile Lab Previous bulk sample analyses identified these areas as having a possible asbestos dust exposure hazard. Accompanying the writer was Mr, R. M. Quarles, Senior . Safety Engineer, General Services Division. Purpose of this survey was to evalu ate each location for the potential of asbestos exposure to employes. Each of the above locations was visited and sources of asbestos fallout identified. Also observed were work procedures or other practices that might generate ad ditional or future asbestos exposure. None of.the locations had operations that continuously or regularly used asbestos in any process or product. All asbestos fallout is, therefore, assumed to result from the protective or insulative coatings applied to pipes, ducts or structural members. Based on the results of this survey, no excessive health hazard from asbestos exposure is expected; however, to ensure that the best possible protection is provided to our employes, the following are recommended: . Clean up all areas where asbestos scrap and detyis have accumulated (Design Center and New Body). . ?? . Ensure that future maintenance operations, performed by Company or contracted personnel, are conducted in accordance to Asbestos IR Bulletin No. U. . Ensure that Ford Motor Company personnel who may have contact with asbestos receive training relative to asbestos he^dling. (An Asbestos Training Program is available from Employe Health Services.)
