GOODRICH CLEAN REACTOR TECHNOLOGY PROJECT WEEKLY STATUS REPORT WEEK OF FEB. 6-12 Date February 14, 1977 Copy to D, C. Coldiron L. Medeiros R. Richards G. I. Rozand P, R. Scarito A, C. Siegel Summary - Production Upon startup of the copolymer plant on Monday, Feb. 7, reactor one was charged with its seventh batch since the startup of the test. The reactor was coated with the 1.5% solution. Upon completion of this batch, we reduced the concentration of the coating solution to 1.0%. No detrimental effects were found after later batches. Eleven batches were produced during this week. Production included five 391 batches, two 315 batches, and four 390 batches. On Sunday, Feb. 13, the copolymer plant was shut down for repairs to a number of reactors. This shutdown is scheduled to last most of the week of Feb. 13th. Fouling Results Copolymer reactor number one has now proceeded approx, five batches past the point (10-15 batches) where it normally requires a shutdown for manual cleaning. Except for a few isolated areas of light buildup (baffle, top of agitator shaft and a few metal exposed areas), the reactor is very clean after the completion of seventeen batches. I have attached a data sheet comparing runs of like copolymer types within the sequence of these seventeen batches. Reaction times and initial and minimum cooling water temperatures have remained fairly constant. This indicates a lack of any substantial loss in heat transfer due to fouling. These variables will be closely followed in future runs. Product Quality To date we have not found any visible discoloration or brown spec contamination in slurry samples taken from all seventeen batches. A number of lab dried samples of these slurries were analyzed via Gardner Color Testing (XL10 color analysis) and compared to standards for each product type. No color deviations from the standards were found. This type of testing will be continued in future runs. COLOR!TE 018146 Program Continue batch sequence on copolymer reactor number one when repairs on copolymer reactors are completed. A homopolymer reactor will be selected for startup on a similar testing program. During the week of Feb. 20, we hope to start this 2nd evaluation. Mote: The fouling situation in copolymer reactor #1 has not warranted a shut down for "patching" the reactor as described in LOP 1126. After seven teen batches, we still see no need for patching the reactor and are not planning to patch in the future. SAE/ib Attachment SjW&I___ S, A. Edenbaum COLORITE 018147 COLORITE 018148
