Obringer Subjects Asbestos Exposure Evaluation - Departments 4524, 4525, 491 and 488 As requested by Jeff Morgan, Safety Engineer, the Industrial Hygiene Services Section evaluated the magnitude of employe exposure to asbestos at the low swing lathe department, mold and commutator department and A. C. clutch depart ment. Additionally, potential exposure from a deteriorating asbestos containing conveyor belt was also determined. Breathing zone sampling conducted in the aforementioned areas indicute no signif icant employe exposure. Results, as shown on the attached data sheet ranged from "not detected" to 0.05 fibers per cubic centimeter of air. Based on these results, medical monitoring, as indicated in, Dr. Block's asbestos directive is not required. However, in view of the toxic nature of asbestos, airborne levels should be maintained as low as practicable.
