Oct 14). My plans for this session include three IS Minute talks and plenty of tine for questions and answers and group discussion with all three speakers at the end. The three talks in their order of appearance are: Overview of new asbestos regulations - L.L. Rippey Discussion of large scale asbestos reaoval project - Contractor Saapling and analysis - R. Milito The titles of the talks are Merely descriptive at this point. What I have in wind for the Contractor talk is a close look at all aspects of a large arbestos reaoval job. I don't want a sales pitch for a particular business but I think that the audience would be interested in soae things to look for in selecting a reputable contractor. The best way to give this "close Look* would be to illustrate the talk with slides showing various aspects of the job: Pre-job activities EPA notification, coaaunication with other eaployers working on site preparing the site. Setting up the restricted area which in the case of these large jobs will be a negative pressure enclosure. Negative air units - how Many are needed? how can you ensure their perfornance? The eaployee clothing and PPE- what does the contractor recosaend? Soae eaployers purchase inexpensive deck shoes to wear in the work area. They have found then to be aore practical than shoe coverings which are a slipping hazard on visqueen. Work practices- show the group what is involved in suiting up and entering the work area. Decontaaination procedures. Show proper practice in equipaent rooa showers and clean-rooa. Do eaployees wear their respirators into the showers? How does this eaployer insure that clothing worn in the work area is not taken hoae? Discuss laundering clothing. How is it done safely? Clean-up after the job and proper disposal of asbestos containing waste. Hhat I aa thinking about is really a walk through a wall planned, well executed job which will be in coapliance with the new asbestos regs. -f*e photos will probably not be froa Alcoa facilities, they aay even be froa a nunbar of different jobs. The intent is just to illustrate * state of the art", job paractice. The contractor aay also want to talk about on the job safety issues inherent in poorly planned jobs ie. electrical shock hazards and how to avoid soae of these pitfalls.
