Subject: Asbestos Analysis of Pipe Covering
Results of the asbestos analyses conducted on the 6k pipe covering samples you submitted are attached. A HICSH asbestos screening test was used. This test is qualitative with a lower detection limit of one percent. The results are ex pressed as either a definite negative or a presumptive positive.
As can be seen from the attached data, 35 of the 64 sajsnles are nresumed positive for asbestos. Based on the observations made during our visit of July 2, 196l, interviews with Canton Forge Plant plant engineering employes, and a review of the sample locations listed, we are reasonably confident of the positive results and do not recommend further confirmative analyses. Given the distribution of sample results and the age of the pipe covering, we believe that a pipe covering removal project should treat all of the pip-,- covering as asbestos and all asbesuos handling precautionary measures specified by OSHA and Company policy should ba followed.
