ACTIVATED SLUDGE RESPIRATION INHIBITION
TEST SUBSTANCE
Identity:Perfluorooctanoiaccid,ammonium salt;may also be referredto as PFOA ammonium saltA,mmonium perfluorooctanoateP,FO, FC-1 16, FC-1 26, FC-1 69, FC-1 43, or as a major component of FX-1003. (Octanoicacid,pentadecafluoro-a,mmonium salt, CAS # 3825-26-1)
Remarks; The 3M productionlotnumber was 2327. The testsample is FX-1 003. It'psuritywas notsufficientclhyaracterizedt,hough current informationindicatesitisa solutionof<45% ammonium perfluorooctanoate5,0% water,<3% inertperfluorinatecdompound and 1 -2% C5 and C7 perfluoroanalogue compounds.
The followingsummary applies to the testsample as a mixture of the testsubstance in water solutionwith incompletely characterized concentradons of impurities.Data may not accuratelyrelatetoxicity of the testsample with thatof the testsubstance.
METHOD:
Methods: OECD 209 Test type: Staticacute GLP: No Year Completed: 1990 Analyticalmonitoring:Dissolvedoxygen concentrations. Stock and testsolutionpreparation:Test substancesolutiownas createdby mass additiontoa solutioncontaining284 mL MilliporMeilli-Qo water,16 mL syntheticsewage feed, and 200 mL inoculum. A reference solutionwas createdusinga 500 mg/L stocksolutionof3,5dichlorophenol. lnoculum source: Mixed liquoractivatedsludge collectedfrom Metro Wastewater Treatment Plan,St Paul,MN Mixed liquorSuspended Solids: 3.2 g/L Inoculum holding: None - used day obtained. Test Conditions:
pH of Activated Sludge Mixed Liquor: 6.7 (initialn)d 7.1 (final) pH of 1,000 mg/L testconcentration: 7.3 (initial). Temperature: 20 - 21 OC Element basis:Respirationinhibitioans determined by oxygen consumption.
RESULTS
Nominal concentrations: Bk control,Reference control,1000 mg/L
Elementvalues: 30-minutEeC5o= >J,ooomgll 3-hc)urEC5o = >1,000 mg/L
Allelement valuesbased on nominal concentrations.
Remarks: Testingwas conducted on the mixtureofthe testsubstance as describedinthetestsubstanceremarks field. The valuesreportedapply tothatmixtureand notthe testsubstance.
CONCLUSIONS
The FX-1003 3-hour EC50 foractivatedsludge respiratioinnhibitiownas determined to be >1,000 mg/L.
