They inforeed us several weeks ago that we aust coaply with their asbestos procedures. are: Their procedures for drilling a hole of up to l" 1. We notify their Industrial Hygiene Croup of intent. 2. Me wear respirators and disposal gloves. 3. We use a drop cloth on the side of the wail w are drilling. 4. A bag be attached to the well on the side the drill bit exits. 5. A high efficiency vacuum cleaner be used when the hole is being drilled. 6. After drilling the hole be sealed with glue or a groaaet. 7. We infora Industrial Hygiene that the job is complete and ask for an inspection. The Shipyard has agreed to reimburse vs for all costs including additional labor that ve incur as a result of following these procedures. Holes greater than I" will be handled by the Ship yard. In addition, we are studying jointly what procedures cable placing and maintenance employees should follow when working outside on building walls that contain asbestos. We have asked the Shipyard to provide us with respirators, gloves, drop cloths and bags for disposing of asbestos waste as an alternative to us purchasing these items and billing them. They have already decided that we must buy 10 vacuum cleaners Cone for each truck) and that they would reimburse us. I believe this points out the need for more detailed work procedures for l&K and Construction forces that encounter asbestos. As developmentsoccur, we will keep you advised.
