Troutman l/)hj Maintenance and Materials Management Safety Procedure XVIII requires employee asbestos exposure monitoring on all jobs of significant size which involve handling asbestos-contained insulation. The purpose of this communication is to point out that: , 1. OSHA requires use of a type "C" continuous flow or pressuredemand, supplied-air respirator, regardless of asbestos exposure concentrations, unless it has been conclusively es tablished that the upper concentration of airborne asbestos during spraying, demolition or removal does not exceed per missible limits. 2. the last time we were notified by the 327 Department of opportunity to monitor asbestos exposure was in October 1980.. 3. periodic asbestos exposure monitoring and documentation of results are necessary for continued, lawful use of 3M - #8710 Disposable Respirators by Plant Insulators.
