O'Leary will send the World Bank paper on hazard assessment to appropriate task groups. **** 1. B. Karrh convened the meeting at 8:45 a.m. 2. The July 17, 1985, committee minutes were approved with item 5, p. 3 changed to read: "...information on Senator Lautenberg's inventory/emissions report ing amendment existing in S. 51". 3. Committee Organization Committee members and task group chairmen discussed the proposed organiza tional changes and agreed that they should improve communication among the task groups and the committee. R. Schumacher will update the organizational chart of the committee to include task group chairmen. 4. Task Group Reports Task group chairmen or sponsors briefed the committee on the major activities of each of the task groups and projects they are considering. Many of these activities overlap among the task groups and other CMA standing committees, necessitating the need for closer coordination. The committee will include an item on its meeting agenda for sponsors to report on significant task group activities. 5. International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) Proposal J. Norris briefed the committee on the most recent IARC meeting, and iden tified weaknesses in criteria that the Agency uses in its carcinogenic risk evaluations. The committee approved forming a work group to consider the IARC criteria. The work group will function under the Hazard Assessment Task Group. Draft Procedural Rule for Testing Under TSCA The committee approved the proposed consensus procedural rule and preamble on testing under Section 4 of TSCA. 7. 35th Chemical Industry Conference (CIC) Open Meeting Program R. Hussey outlined the program proposed by the Communication and Education Task Group and the Public Protection Task Group for the committee's open meeting at the 35th CIC. R, Hussey and R. Schumacher will work with the task group chairmen and staff to confirm speakers for the program. 8. Chronic Hazard Classification Criteria Paper The committee approved the paper on chronic hazard classification criteria that CEFIC, the International Affairs Group and the Canadian Chemical Produc ers Association prepared, F. Emde will notify the other associations that collaborated on the paper of CMA's approval. 9. CMA comments on OSHA's Remanded Trade Secrets Issues The committee approved the proposed comments on OSHA's remanded trade secret issues. C. Boccella will forward CMA's comments to OSHA immediately, 10. EPA's Acute Hazard List CMA commented to EPA on its proposed acute hazards list, which the Science Advisory Board reviewed at its August 15 meeting, T. O'Leary will send the World Bank paper on hazard assessment to the Exposure Assessment, Public Protection and Safety Programs Task Groups. 11.
