'The paint was thinned rith the new solvent mix to lOJfr solid and sprayed cn to rlibber at 35 pounds air pressure. No ocbwebbing resulted but care was needed to prevent bud runs. Slims produced whether brushed cr sprayed shewed excellent flexibility, but, although adhesion was good in the main body, the film could still be wariced up at the edges. The new solvent mixture does not have any noticeable effect on the drying time. The 1.0.1, claim that it is a better solvent sixture than that originally suggested has best substantiated. miHmSaiEg "by D. B. 3EA8 Series No.53. The bulb of production is White and and White base for tints, and these siave given little trouble as regards gloss when ground in a pebble mill for about 40 hours. In the case of colours, however, there has bee a considerable trouble with haziness ai poor gloss. Grinding for periods up to 120 lours has not entirely eliminated this defact. Also, there have been ocuplsints that stored films were insufficiently hard. The present medium SA5334 was adopted in place of SA5307 sane snaths ago after jonsideraticn of the preiuotian difficulties of the latter mediua. The possibility cf the hardness of SA5334 being inferior was reconsidered. A small amount of gelatinous material was removed by centrifuging, the quantity being eanewhat greater in the case of SA533A. Laborat cry grinding trials. Small ball mill batches of Deep Lapis Keraplaatiue SA3519 were made under identical conditions using centrifuged and uncon1x1fuged SA5334- snd SA530?. Gloss was excellent and hardness satitsfactary in all cases and there was little cr no difference between tiie enamels in this respect. Works trials. Works grindings under ic.entical conditions were then made on the two centrifuged batches in a 100 gallon porcelain mil... The material chosen, was Boyal Blue Koiplastite SA3&14 since this has given considerable trouble with haziness in the past. The grinding time given was i*A hours in each carte. The charge was 35 gallons for the SA5307 batch and 33 gallons for the SA533fe- batch, both to irate 100 gallons. After grinding both batches were coupleted and centrifuged at the rate of 30 gallons par hour (output of twin centrifuges). Both gave a samewtat hazy film, though rather better in this respec t than recent production. An increase of 5Qto extra medium was then made ci both batches and they war recentrifugea. In each case a film of good gloss and hardness eras obtained, the batch made on SA5307 being slightly superior in both respects. SUP i <13) miTiASTITB (Continual) Sarto* No. 53 (P.117.) Conclusions. SA3334- can be male to giva an entirely satisfactory result when used in Kcaplaatite if the correct prooedure is used in the manufacture jf-both the paint end melius. To further check the results of SA5334- and SA53C7 five hatches of each are being mode under controlled conditions and these will he tested in works production of Keuplaatlte.
