I havie been led to believe, in discussions with other people, that lead frit is a relatively harmless material under condi tions of occupational exposure. There is, I am sure, seme evidence that the substitution of this preparation for some of those previously in use has resulted in a great diminution in the practical occupational lead hazard. It would seem, from theoretical considerations, that this would be the case, and therefore I am; quite prepared to believe what I have been told. On the other hand, I have not seen conclusive published data, nor have I hhd any personal experience that enables me to speak at first hand . T doubt, very much if this material is capable of giving rise to industrial lead poisoning under the conditions of its use, and if I have occasion to find evidence on this point one way or the other, I shall be glad to caljl your attention to it. We have recently had several questions and claims regarding th toxicity of lead frit (lead monosilicate). We have been unable to find anything very definite in our lit erature and are wondering if you have had any experience with thls product. Kindly write and advise, giving your opinion as to whether or not this form of lead is capable of producing lead po soning, especially in potteries where it is used in the manu- fac ture of glaze.
