Therefore, this Advance Specification is a preliminary step to establishing the Standard Product. 1 l Background: CertainTeed had withdrawn from the Air Duct Market (A" through 16") in 1989. There had been some underlying problems in trying to continue to service the market when the demand had shifted to far more stringent demands on tolerances than we could meet. Additionally, the rHA had begun to require better joining methods, and there had also been raised the subject of asbestos fiber being introduced into the home or office atmo sphere. 1 Current: The attached specification is patterned after the original specification plans adding 18", 20" and 24" pipe. The wall thicknesses, furnishes and tolerances were discussed and approved by Mr. Benhardt as a reasonable starting point. It cannot be over emphasized that the products going to customers must be free from fibrous particles that could lead to any type of complaint. The joining system will have to be resolved. A Stevenson type of coupling has been suggested, and once the dimensional parameters have been agreed upon, CertainTeed can negotiate for the required quantities. Since it is anticipated selling these pipe products through a distribution system that manufactures their own fittings, CertainTeed will not need to furnish any fittings.
