Goltra, M.D. Janet Smith0?* date July 29, 1986 subject Asbestos Attached are the laboratory results for the bulk asbestos samples collected July 15, 1986, in the Cotton Valley Refinery. These results were given to Darwin Parker during a phone conversation on July 22, 1986. The pipe insulation above the naptha charge pump area is exposed and deteri orated. To prevent release of asbestos fibers into the environment, it is recommended that all asbestos containing insulation be covered. The boiler (#3) is scheduled for demolition in August, 1986. Air monitoring should be conducted during this operation. I would like to conduct air moni toring and observe the asbestos abatement contractor during removal. The contractor conducting demolition of the boiler should be apprised of the necessity for a containment structure as well as air monitoring of his employees during removal. These requirements should be incorporated into the job speci fications to insure that adequate abatement procedures are utilized. JCS/lh attachment xcs: M. Moore J.
