Mr. Benjamin Linsky Air Pollution Control Officer Deputy Air Pollution Control Officer Director of Laboratory Senior Research Assistant Present for Ethyl Corporation: Mr. Huxtable, Mr. Koehnle and myself It was apparent in the telephone contact with Mr. Linsky to set up the meeting that he was unaware of the action of the lead industries and also of the report of the advisory committee to the Surgeon General. In the meeting, a general review of the presentation made to the ad hoc advisory committee was given to Mr. Linsky and his staff. There were numerous questions relative to both lead-in-air levels and to the public health aspects of the use of leaded gasoline. Specific questions relative to the lead-in-air level in the Bay area were raised a number of times and it appears that not too much information exists in this area. Mr. Linsky stated that he appreciated being infonned on this matter prior to any possible queries from individuals who might obtain knowledge of it and said he would immediately contact the U. S. Public Health Service to obtain copies of the full committee report for evalu ation by his staff. Mr. Linsky generally appeared not concerned as regards the public health aspects of the change and had no comments relative to the possi ble influence on the development of catalytic converters. It seemed 0005007 that Mr. Linsky's general attitude was one of "wait and see" and that he intends taking no immediate action relative to TEL concentration. At the conclusion of our session he did inquire into the possibility of a more detailed presentation, particularly on the public health aspects. I told him that in all probability, Dr. Kehoe and I would be in the area to see the California State Public Health people and that we might be able to schedule the requested review at that time.
