Lauren,
I struggle with the wording on both these documents. They both have wording that implies 1) our existing protocols are inadequate, and 2) this study will improve our existing protocols. My counter to that is 1) we do not know if our protocols are adequate today or not. The purpose of the study is to give us more information to determine if there are more diseases (e.g. non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma) at a given exposure level and what that exposure level would be - it's not until after the study that we will know if our existing exposure levels are "adequate". and 2) nothing in this study will "help the Benzene business unit improve its protocols... ". This study will give us information, which we can use to determine what, if any, improvements are needed.
I may be nit-picking, but sure don't want a document out there implying we know are protocols are already inadequate.
love the links - didn't know (or forgot) they were out there.
Susan

Shanghai Benzene - Issue brief/SO write up for your review
Dear all:
I am attaching two documents for your review.
The first is a short summary of the study for 01 SD summaries, managed by Joe Machado. Joe asked for a brief write up on the study, which will be included in internal communications only (e-news,etc).
The second document is an issue brief for the Shell Chemicals issue website and Pearl Website. For your background, Pearl is the EAllssues database that is used for briefing senior management - including for the upcoming Annual Meeting. Below are the links for both sites http://sww-pearl.shell.com/default.asp https:llsww-knowledge.shell.com/knowhow/livelink.exe/fetch/2000/1476603/54630631 5465211/index.htm?nodeid=5465110
Please advise on any thoughts/edits that you may have. Best Regards, Lauren

SD Summary - Shanghai Benzene: Shell Chemical is participating in a multi-stakeholder health study in Shanghai, China, which aims to better define hazards and health risks from exposure to benzene as part of ongoing product stewardship and safety and health programs. This study will help clarify previous assumptions regarding benzene health risks and will also help address some recent questions about benzene hazards.. In order to accomplish this, a state-of-the-art clinical and molecular laboratory is being built and staff are being trained on the Fudan Medical University campus to support the research project as well as the Shanghai medical community and this facility will remain at Fudan once the project is completed
