MacI.eod The following issues were discussed at the meeting which was held in conference roc*) P.3.5 * WHQ: _ Lead .. .1 The Company indicated that continued progress with respect to employe exposure to lead was evidenced by third, quarter blood lead test results -- a copy of of which was provided to the union. Hie union was also advised that no lead has been used on Company trucks since the 1980 model year and the new Escort- Lynx car lineB. Additionally the union was told that considerably less lead is required on the new Granada-Cougar than their predecessors. --- The union representatives were advised that a copy of the Company's final request for variance fromthe lead-arsenic standard from the Department of Labor would; be forthcoming in the next few days ft? ^ / Coke Oven ftnissions MULA&AeiMJr//tSD. -- o CJ o f'-> The Company provided a status report of the coke oven emission citation to the union. The union was advised of the major ingredients of the recent settlement agreement including medical, examinations, issuance of positive air respirators and Improved filtered air systems in certain lunch rooms. The union was also advised that in Bpite of the improvements contained in the settlement agreement the Company would still not be in compliance at all times and/or under all cir cumstances. (Company representatives should confirm that Steel Division has done everything required under the terms of the settlement agreement.) Saline Plant Inspection &CM. ^jtv * ^ Kovacich-hadbaea requested by the local committee to tour the degreasinyopera- tion at Saline and did so on Tuesday, November 18, I960. Kovacich indicated some concern regarding employe exposure "particularly to employes working across the aisle" based on the set-up,operation and location of the machinery. Speci fically Kovacich questioned the adequacy of the ventilation system, the use of man cooling fans, the effect of open or closed doors on the machinery proper and * recommended machine specifications and method of operation. He indicated that the local union had a health and safety grievance in the procedure and that the remedy sought by the local union waB the relocation of this operation. Kovacich said that in spite of favorable Company industrial, hygiene surveys, the smell of trichlorethylene was evident implying that exposure is greater than what Company surveys had previously measured. Kovaclch was advised that this issue van already under discussion * by the local parties vho expected to have a program in place by the first of the year. The Company acknowledged thap there vere probably employ, exposed than vere originally thought. Carcinogens ,mu/ The Company advised the union of the unit health and safety representative'* request at Sharonville for the Company to provide death certificates on all deceased hourly employes at that location. The Company indicated that that request would be denied because that information is not readily available at the plant and that requests for such information Bhould be channeled through the National Committee. The union representatives did not quarrel, with that position and instead advised the Company that they.would make a presentation to the Company at-the January meeting to explain and..clarify their cancer program. The Company readily agreed to this approach.
