Personal sampling for perfluorooctanesulfonyl fluoride vapor is currently (late 1999 to present) done with evacuated canisterswith analysisby GC-MS. Previous sampling had employed silica gel acidmist tubesand XAD4 tubeswith GC-ECD analysis.Perfluorooctanesulfonyflluoride was found to hydrolyze on sorptiontubes resultingin an underestimateof exposure. See attached tableforairsample results. There has been area/sourceairmonitoring dataand/or surfacewipe sampling data collectedfor thismaterialatthe plant.Area/source sample resultsand/orsurfacewipe sample resultsareused to identifyareaswith employee exposure potentialas partof exposure assessment under 3M's industriahlygiene program and arenot measurements of actualemployee exposures. Hence, they arenot includedwith thissubmission. Priorto 1999, these samples were consideredto be semivalidated.
