HOAGLAND 21 January 4 1971 Health Hazard Caution Warning Labels Caution warnings are to be applied to certain packages and products that are sold by IID and that contain asbestos fiber and free crystalline silica Caution warnings now in existence on some printed cartons and bags are to be revised New caution labels are to be affixed to unprinted cartons and bags and in some instances to the product itself where health hazards may exist The new caution warnings have been developed and have Division Environmental Control and Industrial Relations and Legal Department approval At such time as the Corporate label revision program is put into effect in IID the new caution warnings will be included in the revised printed product labels Until this is done the caution label must be a separate label The attached revised sheets show the layout of the labels being used and a listing of those products which will carry such warning labels in 1971 All products will carry label 4955 except those preceeded with an asterisk * which will use label 4956 TO 761 109 1055 J. Hoagland - Nashua File CAUTION LABELS Proposed Proposed Proposed Attached is a listing of the Nashua products and frequency of use of the caution labels according to the type of labal It is suggested that in the case of FLEXBOARD where a U.L. affixed to the sheet that the caution message be made part label This could result in lover label and labor costs label is of this In the case of Industrial Insulations Division products instructions are to include one label per sheet Our proposal would be one label par five sheets as all of the products involved go directly to the installer except in the case of Core Plate sheets which are cut by a fabricator into plates and then shipped to the foundries I assume it is the responsibility of IID as to how plates from cutters are to be handled You mentioned that there could be some objection to loose inserts and that a printed message on the back of the sheet would be preferable Considerable work would have to be done at the plant to automate such printing Hand printing could be costly We will await your instructions as to any changes in the use of caution labels E.
